A Monster Calls: The Play
Tickets are available at https://tickets.nyu.edu/events
Conor has the same dream every night, ever since his mother first fell ill. But tonight is different. Tonight, when he wakes, there’s a monster at his window. It’s elemental, a force of nature, and it wants something from Conor. It wants the truth. This stage version is based on the bestselling classic novel by Patrick Ness from an original idea by Siobhan Dowd. It is a haunting, sensitive, and darkly funny story of monsters, both real and imagined. Through Conor's interactions with the monster, and the compelling, fantastical tales the monster shares with him, Conor comes to terms with his own complex feelings in this theatrical event that thoughtfully, and often playfully, honors the courage needed when a loved one is dying, embracing the power of personal resilience and the place of creativity as part of the healing process. It is recommended for ages 10 and up.
