In a world of high tempos, faced-paced living and instant gratification, the need for pockets of unhurried sound in relaxed environments has become a necessity.
A Love From Outer Kingsland aspires to pay homage to Sean Johnston and the late, great Andrew Weatherall. Their club night and mix series, A Love From Outer Space showcased their passion for the slower sound, slinging “slow building atmospherics and a sense of graceful, determined sleaze”, ALFOS has garnered a cult following around the world.
In the heart of bustling Kingsland is an oasis of shady greenery tucked neatly into an unassuming corner of New North Road. Providing a variety of delicious refreshments and an atmosphere of relaxed contentment to accompany your journey into sound, this is the place to be on March 8. Join us for a Sunday session that will allow you to cast off the hurriedness of city life and slink into a leisurely afternoon of sonic beatitude in one of Auckland’s best kept secrets. We’re here to wind you down, not up.
Nick Munday is our resident wizard. Based in Wanaka and a member of the incredible Rare Specimens (as well as core XCOMMUNICATE family from the start), Nick makes and plays music that is the culmination of his endless fascination with sampling and crate diving. Nick’s offerings twist and turn through weird and wonderful rabbit holes of musical obscurities, his sound is captivating and interesting with a touch of whimsy, and we think he’s one of the most underrated DJs in NZ.
Mia Kober is a local DJ who has made international waves. A founding member of SILK (if you haven’t been to one of their session talks, we highly suggest you get along) and a crew member and resident DJ at Shipwrecked festival, Mia has played across Aotearoa, Australia and Europe. Drawing from a palette of deep grooves, fun basslines, emotive electronica, and textured atmospheres, she crafts immersive experiences that are as much about feeling as they are about
sound.
Cyril Orson has spent most of his life dedicated to incredible sound with a career that spans decades and has taken him around the world. You’re just as likely to catch him laying prime-time techno as you are to see him slink into the deep and dusty sounds of summer. Cyril is a world class act, and the anchor for this event.
A Love From Outer Kingsland is a free event, we would love for you join us from 2pm for a laid back Sunday at our favourite garden bar. We can’t wait to share this afternoon with you all.
IMPORTANT INFO:
Our event is a safe space for all. If you or someone you know is feeling unsafe or harassed, please approach one of the DJs or bar staff. If you are behaving badly and impacting others ability to have a good time safely, you will be removed. Please act with respect and care for your fellow attendees at all times, no means no and this goes for conversations as well as more intimate requests.
