Garry Bannister is back with the 3rd in his series of six talks on the Irish language and its literature. Although aiming to be informative, the talk will be relaxed, light and entertaining, suitable for teen and adult audiences. If you have an interest in the Irish language and would like to hear something about its literature through the ages, then this is for you! The talk will be in English and will last approx. 45 minutes, Questions in English or Irish will be taken at the end. Notes on the material covered in the talk will be made available to all those attending.Dr GARRY BANNISTER was educated at Trinity College Dublin, where he studied Irish and Russian. On a scholarship to Moscow in 1977, he received a degree in Russian language and literature and also completed a PhD in comparative linguistics. He set up the first Department of Modern Irish at Moscow State University in the early 1980s. Upon his return to Ireland, he taught at St Columba’s College in Dublin, where he was head of the Irish Department for nearly thirty years. He has also been a visiting lecturer on modern Irish literature at St Patrick’s College, Drumcondra.
