On Saturdays in March and April, we invite you to the premises of Pekarna Magdalenske mreže for creative gatherings, where we will create works exploring the theme of home.In the midst of the current colonial and capitalist boom, individual and collective reflection on one of the most violated human rights today—the right to decent housing—is both urgent and essential. This right is violated every day, not only in the devastating circumstances of war and genocide, but also within the capitalist system, where the right to housing becomes a privilege rather than a guarantee.
A House Without Shoes is a series of fanzine workshops exploring the themes of home, homeland, and what these ideas mean today. Through a series of sessions focused on creative writing, collage, and photography, you will have the opportunity to explore your preferred artistic medium in a playful and supportive environment. Within a group of young people, you will be encouraged to develop your ideas in both poetic and political ways.
The creative sessions, collective exploration, and the process of making the fanzine will be led by our ESC volunteers, Ivana and Paula. Ivana is a graduate in special education and rehabilitation, and Paula is a graduate devised theatre actress. Both are exploring ways to connect art with the social field and believe in the importance of community as a response to capitalism and colonialism.
The meetings will be held in English according to the schedule below. You can attend all of them or choose the ones that interest you most:
- March 14, 11.00 - 13.00: INTRODUCTORY MEETING
What does home mean to you? At the first meeting, we will reflect on this topic together and begin experimenting with different types of materials.
- March 21, 11.00 - 13.00: LITERARY WORKSHOP
A meeting dedicated to words. Through guided exercises and games inspired by creative writing techniques, we will create our own texts.
- March 28, 11.00 - 13.00: PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP
Discovering through the lens. During a walk through Maribor, we will explore the surroundings, uncover different corners of the city, and learn about the many dimensions of photography.
- April 4, 11.00 - 13.00: COLLAGE WORKSHOP
Combining and gluing. A workshop where we will make collages from photos, magazines, cutouts and other materials that are at hand.
- April 11, 11.00 - 13.00: WRAPPING UP
Towards a Fanzine. At this meeting, we will create another collage, gather all the works produced throughout the process, and reflect on the final outcome.
We strive to create a safe, creative, and playful space where we can explore different ways of expressing our opinions and feelings about the topic at hand. One of the outcomes of this process will be a fanzine, which will be presented at the end of May at OBRAT – a space for art and participation.
The project is run by ESC volunteer and is funded by the European Commission.

Raziskovali bomo skozi pogovore, kreativno pisanje, fotografijo in kolaž. Preizkusili se bomo v različnih oblikah umetniškega in kreativnega izraza, v spodbudnem okolju in skupini mladih, kjer bomo skupaj poetično in politično razvijali svoje ideje.
Kreativna srečanja, skupno raziskovanje in ustvarjanje fanzina bosta vodili naši ESE prostovoljki Ivana in Paula. Skupaj poskušata najti način kako povezati umetnost z družbeno relevantnimi temami in močno verjameta v pomen skupnosti in skupnega boja proti kapitalizmu in kolonializmu.
Kombiniranje in lepljenje.
