About this Event

Nova Arts will host a reception next month for the photography exhibit, History of Immigration in New Hampshire, on display now through the month of April at the Keene Multicultural Center. Award-winning photographer, Becky Field, will talk at the reception about her fourteen years of documenting the lives of New Hampshire immigrants through her photography.

The Keene Multicultural Center Project exhibit features Field’s color photographs of recent immigrants intermixed with black and white photographs of immigrants arriving in the late 1800s and early 1900s from the photo collection at the Manchester Historic Association.

Also at the exhibit is an 8-ft timeline that shows the waves of major ethnic groups coming to New Hampshire over the centuries. Another graphic shows the fluctuation in numbers of refugee groups coming here each year since 2011.

Field has published two books of her photographs, along with accounts of immigrants’ journeys to find a new home in the Granite State. Those books, Different Roots, Common Dreams: New Hampshire’s Cultural Diversity and Finding Home: Portraits and Memories of Immigrants, are available at the Toadstool Bookshop in Keene.

At the reception, Field will talk about her overall project and about the KMCC exhibit. People will also hear about the journey of one specific refugee. Representatives of the immigrant support group, “Project Home” will be present to answer questions and provide local information.

The Keene Multicultural Center Project is a local grassroots group dedicated to providing resources to immigrants in our community. More information on exhibit hours will be available on their website at keenemulticulturalcenter.org or by email at [email protected].

Brewbakers Café is at 48 Emerald St, Keene, NH. For more about Field’s work, visit www.differentrootsNH.com. For more information about the April event, call the Café at (603) 357-8728.

Admission is a suggestion donation of $15, which also includes light refreshments provided by the Yahso Jamaican Grille.
