A History of Edinburgh Photography
Lecture to celebrate World Photography Day.
From the very first image in 1839, through the iconic work of Thomas Begbie and Hill and Adamson to being one of the most Instagrammed cities on Earth, Edinburgh and Photography have always had a strong and beautiful tale to tell together. Did you know that the inventor of colour photography was born in Edinburgh? Or how about the fact that one of the most famous photographs of Edinburgh is partly a painting? Come along and find out the answers and all about the shared history of Edinburgh and Photography. Scott Liddell is an Edinburgh photographer and the man behind the award-winning Dark Edinburgh, a photography project that aims to capture a more offbeat and dark interpretation of one of Europe's most picturesque cities. He can often be found in the grounds of Lauriston Castle with a camera and some dogs.
All our lecture mornings cost £8 and include a friendly lecture where you can meet our guest lecturer, have coffee and a sweet treat and get a special castle tour. Why not make a day of it at Lauriston and have some lunch at Mimi’s café on-site after your lecture experience?
