We are honored to invite you to a special and timely program featuring Jacqueline Saper, a sought-after speaker and author of the award-winning memoir, From Miniskirt to Hijab: A Girl in Revolutionary Iran (University of Nebraska Press). Today, fluent in both Persian and English, she is an international speaker who brings a human voice to the headlines, weaving personal narrative with historical insight.
Born and raised in Tehran in a Jewish household, Jacqueline came of age during the Islamic Revolution and the Iran–Iraq War. She witnessed firsthand how ideology reshaped daily life, especially for women and religious minorities, as the new regime limited freedom, imposed mandatory veiling, and antisemitism became increasingly normalized through public rhetoric, media, and social pressure.
As Iran continues to dominate the news, Jacqueline offers essential context: how the past explains the present, and what life is like with the morality police and under authoritarian rule.
This presentation is a powerful opportunity to hear directly from someone who lived through this history and whose life was forever changed by the Islamic Revolution.
