About this Event
A self declared "gay Indian food geek with tattoos", Gurdeep Loyal was born in Britain to Indian parents - something that often left him feeling pulled by the clashing expectations of both cultures. But through his passion for food and cooking he was able to embrace the delicious contradictions of his plural British Indian identity.
In Mother Tongue he explores his culinary upbringing that combined ‘authentic’ home-cooked Punjabi food, with ‘inauthentic’ Western curry-house favourites. What results is a flavour amplified intercultural cuisine, that is a delicious culinary self-expression of his second-generation experience of the world today.
Taking inspiration from this, and other recipes in his repetoire, Gurdeep will be serving a 3-course dinner showcasing ingredients that shouldn't go together but do, whilst talking about the multiple facets of his identity.
