About this Event
In A Deeper Shade of Blues, award-winning writer/performer, Joel PE King invites the audience on an intimate and soul-stirring journey through the trials and triumphs of a Black man's life in America. Through a series of monologues, spoken word, and soulful blues songs, King channels the experiences of various characters—each grappling with themes of love, loss, resilience, and redemption.
The play weaves through moments of joy and despair, touching on the complexities of identity, family, generational trauma, and the search for self-worth. With raw emotion, King’s characters navigate the struggles of systemic oppression, the pain of broken dreams, and the healing power of community and self-acceptance.
With each story, the blues becomes more than just music—it's a language, a form of resistance, and a reminder that even in the deepest shade of sorrow, there is beauty, strength, and the promise of hope. King’s one-man performance brings these stories to life, blending humor, heartbreak, and powerful melodies in a theatrical experience that lingers long after the final note fades.
