A Day of Hope and Education
Join us for A Day of Hope and Education—a one-day event focused on learning and living before, during, and after breast cancer.
Brought to you by Waves of Hope, Westman and Parkland's breast cancer survivor dragon boat team, this inspiring day will offer practical information, supportive resources, and meaningful conversations for those impacted by breast cancer.
The day will include lunch and refreshments, as well as various presentations on top-of- mind topics related to the latest breast cancer information and research.
The day's keynote speaker is Dr. Mousumi Majumder, Canada Research Chair Tier II in Genotoxicology and the lead behind Brandon University’s Breast Cancer Cell & Molecular Research Lab, which launched in 2023. Dr. Majumder's lab is currently working on research not being done anywhere else in the world.

Info: Dense breast tissue raises breast cancer risk and complicates detection. This session highlights why breast density matters, what this means in Manitoba, and how survivor voices and Dense Breasts Canada are leading efforts to improve awareness, transparency and access to earlier detection.

Complementary Therapies Panel: Reflexology, Lymphedema & Osteopathy
Host: Kayla Bueckert
Info: In this speaker session, three different complementary therapies to traditional cancer treatment will be discussed. Kayla will discuss why people develop lymphedema post cancer treatment. She will explain what lymphedema is, how it is treated, and what secondary issues individuals may develop post-surgery and/or radiation. She will also discuss the referral process at CancerCare Brandon, wait times and what to do while waiting for treatment. Wendy will discuss how reflexology can support individuals affected by cancer through gentle, non-invasive care. Her presentation will explore how reflexology may help ease stress, support the nervous system, and complement conventional approaches to breast cancer care. Jamee, a personal trainer and physical educator, will share her experiences working one on one with clients whom have had cancer and/or have been through circumstances that have placed them into some form of medical treatment/rehab.
