About this Event

At the Table is an organization based in the D.C. metropolitan area that hosts annual gatherings around culturally relevant topics. Events comprise of TED Talk style presentations by speakers representing diverse fields of thought. Speakers are followed by Q&A and roundtable group discussions meant to foster growth and community building. Dinner is included.


The Modern Dilemma: Finding Purpose in a Messy Reality

Join us on Thursday, September 19, for an engaging evening as we delve into the topic of purpose: How do we find purpose through careers and relationships?


Speakers joining us include:

  • Marisa G. Franco, PhD: An enlightening psychologist, TED speaker, and New York Times bestselling author, Dr. Marisa G Franco is known for digesting and communicating science in ways that resonate deeply enough with people to change their lives. She works as a professor at The University of Maryland, authored a New York Times bestseller book, writes about friendship for Psychology Today, and has been a featured connection expert for major publications like The New York Times, The Telegraph, and Vice.   • John Maghamez, Esq.: An NFL Agent, Lawyer, and Real Estate Agent, John Maghamez brings his unique perspective around purpose. John is Legal Counsel and Branch Manager for the Vesta Settlements operations in Richmond and founder and President of Crown Endeavors Sports Agency representing NFL athletes in their contract negotiations and marketing endorsements. Prior to forming his own agency he worked at Octagon, where he helped represent the likes of Michael Phelps, Steph Curry, and Marshawn Lynch. Outside of his legal career, John invests in real estate.   • Bo Machayo, MPH: As the Head of U.S. Government and Public Affairs for Micron Technology, Bo leads Micron's team that engages with local, state, and federal governments globally to achieve the company's $140 billion global expansion efforts. He has shaped various domestic and foreign policy issues (particularly concerning the economy, climate, and Africa), passed legislation, formed coalitions, and accomplished organizational goals throughout his career, including as a political appointee at the White House during the Obama Administration. The event will be hosted at Busboys & Poets on 450K St., a restaurant and bookstore known as a cultural hub for artists, activists, thinkers, and dreamers in the D.C. metropolitan neighborhoods. Dinner and non-alcoholic drinks will be included.
