A Conversation about the Internal Life of Canadian Political Parties

Please join us for a lively, candid conversation about how political parties work behind the scenes in Canada. Author Rob Currie-Wood will present findings from his new book Renegotiating the Bargain: The Formation of Power-Sharing Arrangements within Canadian Political Parites (UBC Press, 2025). After briefing explaining how the balance of power between grassroots party members and senior party officials has shifted in recent decades, Currie-Wood will turn things over to a panel of experts and insiders who will critique, probe, and challenge his conclusions.

The Experts:

Anthony M. Sayers, Director of Canadian Governance Policy at the University of Calgary School of Public Policy.

Ruth Thorkelson, Principal at Public Square Strategy Inc. and former Deputy Chief of Staff to Liberal Prime Minister Paul Martin.

The Author:

Rob Currie-Wood, Assistant Professor of Political Science (Mount Royal University).
