On Sunday, May 17, 2026 at 2:00 PM, the St. Charles History Museum will host the dedication of a newly commissioned bronze memorial bust of John Warne Gates. For generations, St. Charles has honored the philanthropy of families whose names grace our buildings, theaters, and institutions. Yet until now, there has been no formal recognition of the man whose success helped make much of that philanthropy possible.
This dedication seeks to correct that absence.
The ceremony will include:
The unveiling and dedication of the Gates memorial bust
Recognition of the Gates and Norris family legacy
Dedication of the museum’s new exterior sign
Installation and presentation of historic antique gas pumps, generously donated by the Anderson family, honoring the site’s past as a 98-year-old service station
This event is not only a tribute to Gates, but also a celebration of the shared history that shaped St. Charles—from its early industry to the institutions that continue to serve the community today.
As the Fox Valley continues to grow, it becomes ever more important to preserve and share the stories of those who built its foundation.
All are welcome to attend and take part in this meaningful moment of remembrance and recognition.
