Bryan Sirchio here folks. Over the years I've met so many people who tell me that they have written poems and lyrics, but never really been able to put them to music. Or the other way around...people who have all kinds of melodies in their heads but can't find words to go with them. This retreat we've put together will help those of you who've always wanted to write a song learn how to dive in and do it. You'll be amazed what you're able to create with a bit of encouragement and instruction. Others of you have written songs that you're not sure what to do with, or that need some tweaking and improvement. This retreat will make a huge difference!
The CMP Core Team will lead the event. That means the amazing Christopher Grundy, Andra Moran, Ken Medema, Beverly Vandermolen, Richard Bruxvoort Colligan, Monty Jackson, and CMP Lead Designer Bryan Sirchio will all be there!
This will be a smaller event (no more than 50), with lots of time to share music, co-write, and receive instruction on the craft of songwriting (with a specific focus on songs for congregational worship that have the "just and generous" theology and inclusive language that people associate with the CMP website.
There will be a contest--in-person attendees can submit a song to the contest (by March 1st--details on the website), and persons unable to join the retreat will also be able to submit songs for a fee. There will be 3 winning songs recognized and the grand prize will be a free ticket to the fall Converging 2026 conference (a $375 value), a trophy, a piano arrangement and lead sheet of the song, and the winning song will be featured on the CMP website.
This would make a great gift to a songwriter in your life who won't do this unless someone else makes it possible, or plants the idea in their minds... Give a creative person in your life the nudge they need to bring their songs to life!
