https://centennialball.dreamhosters.com/All are cordially invited to celebrate the 1876 Centennial of the United States with a ball in the style of the Centennial Balls of that year! This ball is a specialized sort of Victorian costume ball: 1876 people dressing up as 1776. Costume of either era (widely defined) is appropriate, or modern formal...we want everyone to come have fun and are very flexible about costume!
Music for the ball will be provided by the fantastic dance band Spare Parts with professional dance instruction by dance historian Susan de Guardiola. No previous dance experience is needed! The dances will be a mix of country dances, quadrilles (squares), and couple dances such as waltz, polka, and schottische. All dances except waltz will be taught (1) at the ball! (2) at an (optional but encouraged) afternoon workshop the day of the ball, and (3) at an (optional) advance workshop in Middletown, CT, on July 19th. You do not need to bring your own partner; we encourage people to change partners during the evening.
The ball will be held in the air-conditioned Parish Hall of Mount Carmel Congregational Church in Hamden. A map and photos are on the ball website under "Site/Location". There is ample parking in the church lot.
