About this Event

A Brief Survey of American Dance: Icons, Innovation & Insider Stories

Join Sheldon Schwartz for a dynamic journey through the evolution of American concert dance. This engaging, chronologically arranged talk will spotlight influential choreographers featured in upcoming seasons—including Martha Graham, José Limón, Antony Tudor, George Balanchine, Alvin Ailey, Merce Cunningham, and Paul Taylor—through vivid video excerpts and compelling personal anecdotes. Having worked closely with many of these dance legends, Sheldon offers rare insight into their creative processes, studio dynamics, and the art of choreography itself. A must-see for dance lovers and newcomers alike.

Led by Sheldon Schwartz, former Executive Director, Merce Cunningham Dance Company.
