Each year we honor and remember the 343 firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice on September 11, 2001. Join us for this year’s 9/11 Challenge on Thursday, September 11 at Doughboy Stadium from 6 a.m. - 4 p.m. – or do it on your own time on Friday, September 12 or Saturday, September 13.This year we honor the fallen 343 firefighters with our annual Stair Climb and a 9-exercise challenge!
Choose either or – or do both!
🔷 9/11 Stair Climb 🔷
Pay tribute to all FDNY firefighters by climbing or walking the equivalent of the 110 stories of the World Trade Center throughout Doughboy Stadium; 110 stories equal around 2,200 steps or about 2 miles of stairs.
🔷 9-Exercise Challenge – 343 reps 🔷
The 9/11 Challenge includes 9 bodyweight exercises on the field of Doughboy Stadium. The total number of reps for each exercise represents numbers from 9/11, to include the 41 crew and passengers on flight 93 and the 184 lives lost at the Pentagon. The cumulative number of reps from these 9 exercises is 343 (the number of firefighters that FDNY lost on 9/11). Participants will find signs for each exercise on the field with visual instructions.
Following the 9 exercises, participants will complete an 1,100-step stair climb. As a bonus event, participants may also run 2,763 yards (1.569 mi) on the stadium track which represents the 2,763 lives that were lost at the World Trade Towers on 9/11.
Participation is free and all 9/11 Challenge participants will receive this year’s 9/11 decal. Participants doing the challenge on September 11 between 6 a.m. and 4 p.m. will receive their decal onsite at Doughboy Stadium. Participants doing the challenge on their own time can pick up their decal at Smith Fitness Center, front desk.
