About this Event
Have you heard of Juneteenth?
If not, donโt fretโjust keep reading!
Juneteenth commemorates the day freedom finally reached thousands of enslaved people in Galveston, Texas in 1865. Although President Abraham Lincoln had already declared slavery illegal, it wasnโt until June 19th that the news reached Texas.
Get it? June + Nineteenth = Juneteenth.
Pretty creative, right?
Today, Juneteenth is celebrated annually on June 19th and serves as a powerful reminder of freedom, resilience, and progress.
To honor this historic day, the City of Bessemer City invites you to join us for our
