8-Week Balkan Dance Course

Come join us at this Balkan Dance Course with a dance-loving & fun community in central London for 8 weeks, every Sunday @ 16:00-18:00*, starting 13 October 2024.

At the end of the 8 weeks, we will be holding a social event to dance together and enjoy food & drinks with our friends and family!

All levels are welcome to join, no dancing background needed.

WHAT YOU'LL LEARN

You will be learning the traditional dances from the Balkan region, including individual and group dances.

The first half of the class will cover beginner level dances, and continue with the intermediate level where there will be more advanced figures.

Beginners will learn:

1. Çaça
2. Payduşka
3. Ramo Ramo
4. Kasap
5. Perşembe Horonu, basic steps

Intermediates will learn everything in the beginner level plus the following:

1. Eski Kasap
2. Roman Havası
3. Eleno Mome
4. Perşembe Horonu, advanced figures

*This course will have a beginner level session followed by an intermediate level session. Intermediates will join the beginners session as well as the intermedates session for advanced dance figures. Beginners are welcome to join the intermediates session however they are expected to keep up with the faster pace of the class should they choose to join the intermediate session.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR

This course will be taught by Begüm A. who was born and raised in Thrace, in Turkey, and has learned these traditional dances since her childhood from her family members at weddings and other celebrations. Begüm is an Electrical and Electronics Engineer by education and currently is Senior Marketing Manager at a private e-commerce company. As it is in the family culture, she has always enjoyed music and dance, and is now running this course to bring together London based Balkan dance lovers.

LOCATION

Weekly classes will take place in Danceworks Studios in Central London, short walk from Bond Street Station on Jubilee Line. This course and it's contents are not associated with Danceworks other than the private studio hire.
