“8-11-13-17” with Antonio Rezza and Ivan Bellavista

Italian Cultural Institute is proud to present 8-11-13-17 (7-14-21-28) by Flavia Mastrella and Antonio Rezza, Golden Lions for Lifetime Achievement at the Venice Biennale Teatro: more than a theatrical performance, a living, irregular, unpredictable organism.

On stage, Antonio Rezza moves like a body in revolt, breaking rhythm, language, and logic. His words chase each other, break apart, and contradict themselves, while the characters emerge and dissolve in a continuous metamorphosis. Also on stage is Ivan Bellavista, in the habitat of Flavia Mastrella. Fabrics, structures, and surfaces become extensions of the body, devices that generate space and meaning, creating a constant dialogue between matter and gesture.

The performance

Numerical civilisations in comparison. The definitive defeat of meaning. Two-figure diseases that multiply till you jump with fright: we're just a few hops away from the subtraction that makes us disappear. Wobbling and tottering in mobile ideograms. Suddenly the link with the past ceases: ropes, nets and laces hold the situation tight. Life is played out in an ideogram. The section, translated into three dimensions, develops triangular volumes aiming upwards in coexistence with horizontal lines: but vertically only the man moves.
Here it's not the bedtime story that's being told, here we turn the other side. The side does not mean that it's not been pierced through. With a dry throat and a body in distress another sound is uttered.
