Experience the Journey.
This year, Toledo’s Juneteenth Celebration is transforming the Glass City Metropark into a living cinematic experience. Inspired by the visual depth and soulful atmosphere of the film Sinners, we invite you to walk through a three-part journey of the Past, Present, and Future of the Black experience.
Against the stunning backdrop of the Maumee River, we are honoring our roots and envisioning our destiny through high-contrast visual art, immersive storytelling, and powerful musical performances.
🕰️ THE PAST: Ancestral Roots
We begin at the beginning. In a historic collaboration, we are welcoming back the original stewards of this land—representatives of the Myaamia and other nations—to share the oral histories and tribal dances that echoed across this river long before us. Witness the "Past" through traditional forms and candlelight visuals.
✊ THE PRESENT: Resilience & Freedom
Experience the heartbeat of Juneteenth today. This segment features local artists, dynamic dance troupes, and a celebration of the community we’ve built. It’s a space of joy, liberation, and acknowledging the strength of the here and now.
🚀 THE FUTURE: Afrofuturism & Beyond
Look toward what’s next. As the sun sets, the park will transition into a world of neon accents, metallic art installations, and electronic-fused soulful sounds. Explore what it means to be bold, free, and infinite.
What to Expect:
Visual Arts: Large-scale installations mirroring the "Past, Present, and Future" theme.
Musical Performances: From soulful blues and traditional drumming to futuristic sounds.
Tribal Showcase: Authentic storytelling and dance from the region's original tribes.
Food & Vendors: Supporting our local black-owned businesses and food trucks.
Family-Friendly: Activities for all ages to learn and celebrate together.
Cost: This is a FREE community event.
Join us as we reclaim our history and design our future. Let’s make this year’s celebration a masterpiece.
