ALPHA PHI ALPHA TO HOST INAUGURAL ENNIS WILLIAMS SCHOLARSHIP LUNCHEON
GALVESTON, TX — The Brothers of Gamma Pi Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. proudly announce the inaugural Ennis Williams Scholarship Luncheon, honoring the life, legacy, and service of the late Mr. Ennis Williams — a beloved educator, mentor, community organizer, and devoted servant leader. This special event continues the chapter’s longstanding commitment to supporting and uplifting the youth of Galveston through educational scholarships.
The luncheon will take place at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at the Hilton Galveston Island Resort, located at 5400 Seawall Blvd, Galveston, Texas. Tickets are $50 and may be purchased through any member of Gamma Pi Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
“As a kid growing up in Galveston, I had the honor of living one block from Brother Ennis Williams,” said Douglas Matthews, Assistant Vice President of Government Relations at UTMB and Chaplain of Gamma Pi Lambda Chapter. “He was an outstanding individual, a dedicated educator, a loving husband and father, a faithful member of Avenue L Baptist Church, and a tireless advocate for our community and youth. Brother Williams truly embodied what it means to serve others with compassion, humility, and purpose.”
“Brother Williams exemplified servant leadership with a passion for educating and empowering young people,” said Hank Thierry, Chapter President of Gamma Pi Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. “Honoring a distinguished graduate of Ball High School through this annual scholarship luncheon ensures that his legacy of service, excellence, and commitment to education will continue to inspire generations to come.”
Sherman Elias, Mathematics Department Head at Ball High School and Chair of the Scholarship Selection Committee, shared that scholarship recipients will be selected based on academic achievement, leadership, community involvement, and a strong interest in pursuing careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).
The Gamma Pi Lambda Chapter recognizes that investing in education changes lives and strengthens communities. In the spirit of Brother Ennis Williams’ lifelong dedication to helping others, the chapter welcomes community support in continuing this meaningful scholarship initiative.
Donations are graciously accepted year-round through Eventbrite or via Zelle using the email address . Every contribution, regardless of size, directly supports scholarships for deserving students and helps preserve Brother Williams’ lasting impact on the Galveston community.
