Celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Kennet & Avon Canal Trust, Sunday 14th June, Bradford on Avon wharf.
In 1951, many stretches of the 87-mile-long waterway were derelict, overgrown, and unnavigable. A few dedicated canal enthusiasts started the battle to save it, and in 1990 the canal was fully reopened.
From 2nd June through to 7th July, the K&A Trust boat, Hannah, will travel the canal, stopping at key places to open the boat to visitors and attend a series of events organised by the Trust’s eight branches.
This commemorates the journey of Timothy West and Prunella Scales, who were the first to travel the length of the canal when it reopened.
In Bradford on Avon, we invite you to a 1950s themed free community event at the Bradford on Avon wharf, by the Canal Trust Cafe. All are welcome.
Free boat rides, children’s craft activities, canal craft demonstrations, music, dancing and more.
Plus enter our cake competition to win a free boat trip for four. Details and £3 entry tickets at the Canal Trust Cafe
Join in the fun! And share to friends and family - let’s make this a day to remember.
