Sign up now to reserve your team's spot in the race!The 7 Rivers Water Festival is a community event focused on celebrating our shared water resources including lakes, rivers, and our underground drinking water supply! As just one of the fun, family-friendly activities taking place during the festival, the cardboard boat race is a team-based competition that showcases the creativity and ingenuity of our local residents, businesses, community groups, and youth organizations.
Objectives
The goal of the competition is for each team to construct a 'seaworthy' vessel primarily out of cardboard and duct tape.
The boats should be designed to support two (2) team members as they attempt to complete the course: from the beach, around the ski jump, and back again.
Trophies and prizes will be awarded for both adult (18 and older) and youth (under 18) age categories.

Rules for Entry
Teams do not have to be a part of an official organization to participate.
Family and friend teams are welcome!Each team is required to submit a $25 entry fee and liability waiver to compete.Each team must have two (2) members to act as pilots and attempt to paddle their cardboard boat through the course.
Teams may have an unlimited number of members assisting with the design and construction of their cardboard boat.Teams may sign up for either the adult or youth age category. NOTE: Adults may assist youth teams with design and construction, but both pilots must be under 18 years old to compete as a youth team.
A maximum of ten (10) team spaces are made available for each age category. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.
Team pilots must wear either Type 1, 2, or 3 personal floatation devices (PFDs) during the race. Teams are encouraged to provide their own PFDs, but event staff can provide PFDs if requested ahead of time
Boat Construction Rules
Each team must construct their own BOAT and PADDLES to compete.
Boats and paddles must be constructed primarily from cardboard materials. Materials such as rubber, foam, inflatables, wood, etc. may NOT be utilized to improve the buoyancy of the boat.
Duct tape, glue, and contact cement may be used as adhesives to bind cardboard boat pieces together. However, coating the underside of boats in waterproof adhesives (e.g. Flex Seal, rubber cement, etc.) is prohibited.
No motorized propulsion devices may be utilized.
Each team will receive a cardboard boat construction kit one week before the festival date. These kits will include 4 sheets of 4 ft x 8 ft cardboard; 3 rolls of duct tape; 1 ruler, 1 utility knife, and 2 pencils.
Additional materials may be purchased at the teams' expense to supplement the construction or decoration of the cardboard boats.
Teams are encouraged to use creativity to decorate their cardboard boats. Please refrain from incorporating offensive, political, or inflammatory designs.
*Event staff reserve the right to disqualify teams that violate these rules. Disqualification may include forfeiture of the entry fee and potential bans for future events.
