Blessings Everyone, we're back and ready to kick off our 6th annual Sock Drop (For the homeless). This effort came forth after a general conversation my daughter and I had with a homeless guy. He asked if I could purchase hm some socks as it was really cold outside. Happily, I said "Absolutely! I can...is that it"? He stated that one of the top needed items for people living on the street are warm, dry, and clean socks. The very next week the 1st Sock Drop was born....January 2018. And we're Thankful to God that we have been able to successfully gather volunteers and donations for 6 years.
Over the past five years we have donated over 1500 ziploc packs filled with socks, hats, gloves, water, toiletries and snacks. With each year God allows, we pray to go bigger and better and continue Blessing those less fortunate.
You can help us continue our mission by either donating cash and I'll pick up the products in bulk (if you cant make it) or donate actual products (items requested thick/thermal socks, knit hats, knit gloves, gallon size ziplock freezer bags, toiletries and snacks).
Also if you have old coats/jackets/sweatshirts you can donate those as well.
Remember this is a family effort so bring the kids, spouse, etc. We are ALL greatly blessed and we have the ability to reach back and give in some capacity.
While it is ALWAYS a good time to give, the winter weather can be harsh to individuals and families who are living on the streets and/or shelters.
FYI if you are buying snacks please purchase items like granola bars, fruit cups, apple sauce, pretzels, peanut butter/cheese crackers and small water bottles.
ALL ITEMS WILL NEED TO BE TO ME BY FRIDAY, JAN 16TH TO ASSEMBLE or YOU CAN CREATE BAGS OF YOUR OWN TO DISTRIBUTE.
Depending on the amount of volunteers we will split locations to include Union Station, Franklin Park, McPherson Square Park and The homelesss shelter located on D St. NW. If you have other suggestions to drop off/ distribute packages let me know.
Date: Sunday, Jan 19th
Time: 11am- Meeting and prayer MCPHERSON SQUARE PARK (across from Georgia Brown's Restaurant)
15th St NW, Washington, DC 20005
Thanks in advance for your help
