About this Event
This is the 69th ever Bay Area Pun-Off. We're aware. We've been waiting.
A groan of competitors battle through multiple rounds of live wordplay — improvising, riffing, and landing puns under pressure in front of a crowd that came specifically to roll their eyes together and celebrate the world's most loathed form of humor. Tonight's categories will lean into the occasion. You'll know what we mean when you get here and if you don't... ask a friend and bring someone you're comfortable groaning next to.
New this year: a Wild Card round. One open round of punning from the audience — best pun earns a real spot in the lineup. You could walk in as a spectator and leave as a champion. Tonight especially, we encourage you to go there.
The Bay Area Pun-Off has been selling out San Francisco venues for ten years. This is a true milestone edition and we are treating it accordingly.
Hosted by lifelong summer camp professionals Jonah Spear and Brady Gill — two people who have spent decades bringing strangers together around the weird and the wonderful. Jonah is the 2023 O. Henry Pun-Off World Champion. Brady has been running camps, stages, and rooms full of unsuspecting people for as long as anyone can remember. Together, these friends are exactly as charismatic and unhinged as this event requires.
