Special Event Announcement:Tuesday, April 21
Just John
3 pm to 9 pm
Join the St. Louis LGBT History Project to commemorate the historic 1966 Sip-In at Julius’ bar in New York City.
This early act of LGBTQ civil rights activism challenged discrimination in bars and asserted the right to gather openly - calling attention to police entrapment and surveillance at LGBTQ bars.
The Project will be hosting an event with our community partner Just John, 4112 Manchester, Ave., on Tuesday, April 21 from 3-9 p.m. to honor LGBTQ spaces as places of community, resistance, and connection.
The virtual event begins promptly at 6 p.m. – we’ll be joining venues across America in partnership with the NYC LGBT Historic Sites Project to reflect upon the impact of this historic moment of activism.
Learn about this important moment in pre-Stonewall history and how St. Louis’ early lavender activism played a pivotal role.
