BEGINNING SONGWRITING WITH ERIN MCKEOWN
Do you have words and melodies in your life? Do you have thoughts and beliefs you’ve always wanted to turn into music? This beginner class with songwriter Erin McKeown will teach you concepts and techniques to organize and express yourself in song. We’ll learn what makes a song a song, we’ll try our hand at several different kinds of songs, we’ll learn to write with our peers, and we’ll support each other along the way. You will be asked to work outside of class as you complete some basic assignments. While it can be a help, you do not need to play an instrument to join this class. Students can expect to leave the class with two complete songs, and an end of semester concert (at the iron horse??) will give students the opportunity to share what they’ve written.

INTERMEDIATE TO ADVANCED SONGWRITING WITH ERIN MCKEOWN
Have you been writing your own songs for a while? Do you feel stuck in a rut with your style or writing topics? This intermediate to advanced class with songwriter Erin McKeown will help you take your writing to a new level. We’ll go deeper into song structure and explore different genres using basic tech tools like Garageband, Logic, and Bandlab to push your compositions into new and exciting territory. Along the way, you’ll have the opportunity to learn from, collaborate with, and support your peers. You will be asked to work outside of class as you complete some basic assignments. Some familiarity with any of these programs as well as Dropbox or Google Drive is helpful. Students can expect to leave the class with two complete songs, and an end of semester concert that will give students the opportunity to share what they’ve written.

Both of these classes will be taught in person, but are available to participate in online as well.
