About this Event
Saturday, June 8th, is back in the amazing ballroom of Color Club at 4146 N Elston, who has extended their hours so we get to dance until 1am!! This is also an 18+ event and 21+ can buy alcohol at the bar.
Get ready to spread your dance wings at Color Club's great ballroom floor just like the Northern Clubs in North of the UK, like our twin club Blackburn Oldies Northern Soul Club. Our good friends Shaun, Debbie, Rod, Mopsey and Dean and Netty, host amazing Northern Soul All Dayers in a similar ballroom. A great dance floor makes for great dancing, and Color Club's dance floor is a dream.
After a stellar sold-out dance party at The Hideout on March 30th, Heart of Chicago Soul Club's goal is to fill the ballroom with great uptempo vintage Soul and 60's, and fill the floor with dancing. DJ's Debbie , Rockin Ricki, Kat and Syreeta/Psyche Prissy Pie love to dance and collect a variety of vintage 60's and 70's, Rare and Northern Soul, Vintage RnB, Psyche and Latin Soul . We created Heart of Chicago Soul Club because we wanted to dance to rare vintage music, so don't be surprised if our DJ's are out on the floor with you dancing as well. We wouldn't play anything we wouldn't dance to. We hope to play a lot of your "hold my beer" I need to dance tunes. Come check out why we were nominated for Best Dance party in the Chicago Reader's Best of 2023. for our next all vinyl dance party on Saturday, June 8th. We look forward to continuing building community on the dance floor.
"Heart of Chicago Soul Club is a group of women who are “obsessed” with collecting vinyl with rare northern soul music from the 1960s-70s, Benjamin-Koller said.
Soul music has a popular subculture internationally, particularly in the United Kingdom, and its fans are called soulies, Benjamin-Koller said.
“We’re mainly a bunch of old souls collecting old soul music that has a lot of heart,” Benjamin-Koller said. “We have a very supportive friendship with soulies in other cities, which we call our sister cities, where we promote each other’s events and help people get involved with rare soul music.”
From the late 1950s until the mid-1970s, Chicago was home to Record Row, a 10-block stretch of South Michigan Avenue where several independent record companies produced blues, R&B, jazz and soul music, according to the American Archive of Public Broadcasting. "
