Modern life. It’s humbling, when so often, so many of us, fortunate, privileged humans find we have so much choice and yet can become paralysed.
Life gets pretty mental at times. That’s one reason why I do the dance practice called 5Rhythms®. To get out of my head. 5Rhythms founder Gabrielle Roth called the overwhelmed mind ‘the chat room’ and I know I’m not the only one who can fall for the trap of hanging out in this uncomfortable, disconnected place.
In the dance, we trust our body to lead the way because it’s hard to make clear choices when we are heady, cluttered and ungrounded. Dancing Waves helps the nervous system to settle so we can tap into a whole body experience of listening for what we need. Clear direction can start to emerge.
This workshop, led by Guest Melbourne teacher, David Juriansz, will explore 5 directions within the 5Rhythms map.
5 simple, physical, invigorating approaches to expanding our movement repertoire and enhancing our experience on the dance floor, and hopefully, in life.

David Juriansz brings a wealth of experience as 5Rhythms dancer, facilitator, songwriter, musician and performer. His humour, storytelling, and passion for the embodiment of the 5Rhythms, engages both newcomers and long-term dancers, and his weekly 5Rhythms class often attracts over 100 people. David has taught internationally and with his wife Meredith Davies is the co-founder of Moving Essence.
Gabrielle Roth’s 5Rhythms are taught all over the world and Moving Essence started the first weekly classes in Melbourne 20 years ago. Workshops offer a deeper experience of this life changing practice.
5Rhythms is a free form dance of deep surrender, a moving prayer, a medicinal prescription of furious dancing for these graphic times.

WHAT TO EXPECT:
As you enter the dance space, most likely the teacher will be playing a Wave for you to warm up to. This is a time for you to warm up from the inside out. Take some time to tune into your body, surrender the day and allow your body to guide you with what it needs as you transition through the 5Rhythms, Flowing, Staccato, Chaos, Lyrical, Stillness
After the warm up, the teacher will guide you through the 5Rhythms and more Waves will be danced. Please pace yourself where you need to be. You know your body best.
Dance YOUR dance, for you, your body holds the medicine you need.
The space held is sacred and safe.
Touch always requires consent.
Personal Space must be respected at all times.
This is a clothes on practice
