What are the 5Rhythms®?
Created by Gabrielle Roth and practiced by tens of thousands worldwide, 5Rhythms® is a philosophy, perspective, performance art and a dynamic movement practice rooted in the principle that if you put the Psyche in motion it will heal itself. Movement is both the medicine and the metaphor, reaching across all languages, cultures and age groups to transform suffering into art, art into awareness, and awareness into action. Wherever the 5Rhythms are practiced, a community is born to dance, to sweat, to change, to support, and to provide a safe space for each of us to shatter the ego’s hold and awaken the juicy, unpredictable, fascinating, edge-walking, rock star part of ourselves that yearns to be free. What are the 5Rhythms® Waves class?
The five rhythms (in order) are Flowing, Staccato, Chaos, Lyrical and Stillness. The 5Rhythms, when danced in sequence, are known as a "Wave." A typical Wave takes about an hour to dance.
Why do we dance the 5Rhythms® ?
Dancing the 5Rhythms is a practice—a dynamic way to both workout and to meditate in the same breath. They teach us that life is energy in motion, freeing us from any fixed notions about people, places, objects or ideas.
When we practice 5Rhythms, we learn to freely and creatively express aggressiveness and vulnerability, emotions and anxieties, edges and ecstasies.
The 5rhythms is a simple yet profound practice that helps us move from one state of being to another with no dance experience needed!
You don't need any experience to dance 5Rhythms. You can dance alone or with others, and you'll be welcomed into the community no matter what you do.
