Exploring Ashtanga Yoga Postures and the Power of Prana
In this workshop, we will delve into a wide range of postures from both the primary and intermediate series of Ashtanga yoga. Central to the Ashtanga method is the breath, but to fully harness its potential, we must first learn to control Prana, the subtle life force energy. The physical asanas prepare us for this. We will focus on bringing the asana to life by understanding the subtle energy transitions known as bandha (Dantian). By integrating knowledge of postural structure, connective tissue anatomy, and meridians, we can efficiently focus on the breath, allowing our yoga practice to deepen progressively.
Key Components of the Workshop
Breathing: Learn the fundamental principles of breathing and its profound effects on the body, mind, and spirit.
Bandha (Dantian): Explore the concept of bandhas and their impact on the body. Integrate this understanding into your asana practice to consciously control the flow of energy.
Dristhi: Understand the transformative power of the gaze in yoga and how it cultivates a state of calmness.
Pranayama: Introduction to various breathing techniques, with a focus on Ujjayi breathing, which is integral to Ashtanga yoga practice.
Alignment: Explore alignment principles based on connective tissue (fascia) for a deeper understanding of asana.

Course Curriculum
The workshop curriculum is systematic and comprehensive, offering an in-depth exploration of yoga's mysteries. From foundational Ujjayi breathing to advanced pranayama techniques, and from standing poses to closing postures, the course covers all aspects of Ashtanga Yoga. Each component is thoughtfully designed, integrating theory and practice to illuminate the core elements of Ashtanga—breath, asana, and alignment—and to facilitate gradual progress in practice.
Focus on Practical Application
The course not only provides detailed explanations of asanas and pranayama techniques but also offers practical solutions to common challenges students encounter, such as issues with knees, shoulders, and lower back. Modifications and props are introduced to accommodate varying abilities and prevent injury, building confidence in practice.
Course Aims
This course welcomes all who have a genuine desire to learn and are willing to invest energy and enthusiasm in their practice. A consistent practice routine is beneficial. The teaching philosophy emphasizes respect for individual limits; although the practice may appear uniform from the outside, each person's experience is unique and should be adapted to their current physical condition. This course will guide you deep into the art of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga, exploring both fundamental practice methods and deeper philosophical implications. Key techniques for beginners and advanced students will be explored to support practitioners of all levels. The primary goal is to enhance your personal practice and, for those interested, to develop teaching skills.

This 50-hour teacher training course, completed over 4 weekends, at 12.5 hours per weekend.
Mornings will begin with pranayama, incorporating new techniques and explanations each day, focusing on the breath and its significance in ashtanga and yoga generally. This will last approximately one hour.
Following pranayama, there will be a practical session applying the concepts learned throughout the course. The initial class will emphasize movement and breath coordination, while subsequent classes will integrate various aspects of the TTC curriculum.
Afternoons will start with a discussion and Q&A session, followed by technique instruction on the ashtanga primary series and beginning intermediate series postures, covering alignment, fascia, meridians, breath, and foundation principles. While there won't be time to cover every posture, key principles of each group will be explored, including Surya Namaskar, standing postures, forward bends, twists, finishing series, and backbends.
Homework will include studying Sanskrit counting and Sanskrit names of the postures.
