Swing for Safety: Protecting Children from Hidden DangersReese Elizabeth Hamsmith accidentally swallowed a button battery in October 2020 at just 17 months old. After countless medical procedures, surgeries, and 40 days sedated on a ventilator, she succumbed to her injuries on December 17, 2020, leaving behind a heartbroken family. Reese's Purpose was born from this tragic loss and established by Reese's mother, Trista, as an advocacy group to protect other children and families from the same devastation.
Our annual golf tournament serves as our main fundraising event, enabling us to continue our vital work: providing relief for families affected by accidental button battery ingestion, educating caregivers about hidden dangers, and working with medical professionals to develop tools for quicker diagnosis to protect children, elders, and pets.
Since partnering with Energizer, we've successfully released a safer battery with the world's first 3:1 Child Shield technology. We've also funded an early detection medical device that is currently in prototype phase, with the goal to begin testing by the end of the year. As a volunteer-based organization, we rely solely on donations to continue our work with stakeholders, educate parents/caregivers, and collaborate with medical and industry professionals to find solutions to this deadly issue.

How You Can Participate
Register Your Foursome - $700: Includes registration for four golfers with cart and range access, breakfast, lunch, drinks, and team swag bags.
Become a Sponsor: We are currently looking for sponsors for the fourth annual event as well as donations to include in the golfer gift bags (e.g., balls, golf towels, coupons, lip balm, sunblock, hand sanitizer, etc.). The Impact of Your Support: Reese's Purpose has established a Memorial Scholarship in Reese's honor, granting support to a senior from Trinity Christian School each year since 2021. We also provide emotional and financial grants to support families affected by accidental button battery ingestion.
A small group of women from across the country, who before this were complete strangers, gathered to work on this common cause; we call ourselves "Reese's Warriors." While we hate the reason we were brought together, our PURPOSE is resolute.
In Reese's hospital room sat a plaque that read, "He has a plan, and I have a purpose." Her earthly battle may be over, but through your participation in this tournament, her purpose lives on as we work together to save lives.
