As directly impacted people, nothing is more personal to us than the constant threat of fatal overdose, threatening both for our own lives and the lives of those we love.
Politicians and policy makers are currently failing us, continuing to arrest us, standing in the way of evidence based solutions likes OPC's and decriminalization, and actively contributing to the shame and stigmatization that is driving this crisis.
We hope to create space for the voices of people of color, LGBTQI, and poor people who use drugs to be heard. We all understand the importance of making space for the voices of people who are using drugs, and yet we are left out of most spaces, events and committees. So we have decided to create our own space, in the space where most of these overdose deaths are occurring, and will be offering life saving services to those who are at risk.
We look forward to the time when we can stop having these events at all, when policy makers will have stopped delivering platitudes and started delivering bold policy changes.
