You’re Invited to Historic Preservation Day!The Town of Abingdon is thrilled to announce our 4th Annual Historic Preservation Day. We’re proud to showcase the work, passion, and preservation progress happening right here in Abingdon, Virginia.
This year, we’re taking the experience to a new level with a lineup of knowledgeable speakers, informative learning sessions, and an exciting tour of the ongoing restoration of Retirement at the Muster Grounds. Attend one, as many, or all sessions that are of interest to you!
We are extending this invitation to:
• Certified Local Government (CLG) members
• Surrounding localities in Virginia, Tennessee, and North Carolina
• Preservation professionals
• Realtors
• Property owners in the Old & Historic District
• All other interested community members!
Historic Preservation Day is free to attend and open to the public.

9:30 - 10:00 am - Martha Washington Inn Ballroom, Welcome from the Historic Preservation Review Board Chair, Betsy White
10:00 - 11:00 am — Martha Washington Inn Ballroom, Presentation on 1970 and 1986 Town of Abingdon National Register of Historic Places Nomination (NRHP) updates with Mary Ruffin Hanbury
11:00 am - 12:00 pm — Martha Washington Inn Ballroom, Presentation on State of Virginia Historic Rehabilitation Tax Credit Program with Carolyn Zemanian (DHR)
12:30 pm - 1:45 pm — Muster Grounds/Retirement, Lunch, tour of Retirement, and Town of Abingdon VA250 plans
2:00 pm - 3:00 pm —Town Hall Council Chambers, Presentation on Preservation Virginia with Logan Parham (Preservation Virginia)
3:00 pm - 4:00 pm — Town Hall Council Chambers, Presentation on historic stained glass window repairs and restoration with Lynchburg Stained Glass
4:00 pm - 5:30 pm — Town Hall Council Chambers, Discussion on historic cemetery symbology, maintenance, regulations, laws, and grants with Joanna Wilson and Katherine Ridgway (DHR)
🍽 Food and drinks will be provided throughout the day.
