A Labor Day weekend tradition in Eau Claire continues with help from the L.E. Phillips Career Development Center (CDC).In 2025, CDC formed a partnership with Special Olympics - Eau Claire Adults 3-06 to organize the Buckshot Run and add a new chapter to its decades of history at Eau Claire's Carson Park. After a successful 44th Annual Buckshot Run on August 30, we're 'running it back' for a 45th annual event!
Registration will soon be available for the 2026 event!
The two-mile run/walk will take place on Saturday, September 5, 2026 at 9 a.m.
The first Buckshot Run was in 1982. Bob Lesniewski, who was running Special Olympics in 18 counties in western Wisconsin at the time, came to Leader-Telegram sports writer Ron Buckli with the idea to organize a run. Its purpose was to raise awareness of and funding for Special Olympics.
CDC is proud to carry Bob & "Buck's" vision for the Buckshot Run on through this year's event and beyond! All proceeds will stay local and help provide necessary funding for our community's Special Olympics athletes and programming at L.E. Phillips Career Development Center.
