41Drawings Workshop @ Nikolaj Kunsthal, COPENHAGEN

03/04/2024 2pm till 4pm.

Each person is given a small A6 sketchbook and a stick of graphite. The objective of the workshop is to walk through the free exhibitions and make 41 fast paced drawings in 2 hours.

Behind the very first exhibition of the year at Nikolaj Kunsthal is Rune Bering, who occupies the Upper Gallery with a site-specific approach to the art centre's past as a church where the fishermen and sailors of Copenhagen came.

Taking the fishing industry as his point of departure – as a story about both catching and being caught – Rune Bering weaves fishing nets in copper cables that originate from the infrastructures of technology. He works sculpturally with how technology is closely connected with geology and nature. There is a pervasive and underlying ouroboros approach to his exhibition that examines the cycle of destruction, death and rebirth.

Super High End Underground focuses on the meeting between art and fashion in an attempt to uncover some of the aesthetic trends and activist movements that are currently running through different underground environments in Copenhagen, for example the rave culture which is reflected in the fashion industry and the contemporary art field. The exhibition examines parts of the mutual inspiration and the dynamic processes that are at play between the fields, permeated by both art and commercialism. In which ways are the artistic expressions overlapping, contrasting and coherent? And what does it say about our current time?

There will be lots of objects and starting points for conversation and inspiration to make some drawings. All abilities welcome and this workshop is free to access.

This specific session is hosted by Nima @nima.shafiani who works as an artist in today's London.

We will meet as a group at the main entrance of the NIKOLAJ KUNSTHAL art gallery at 1.45pm and the session will start at 2pm.
