Join us for the 40th Anniversary Concert of music, memories & funky grooves featuring the Norman Sylvester Band ALL-STAR line-up of past & present performers!
Norman’s professional blues career began in 1963, and led to making his first 45 RPM recording with his band Rated X in 1969. Music remained a part time endeavor during his early child raising years, also working as a Teamster for trucking company PIE. Norman performed casual music jobs with pick up bands, and attended blues jam sessions during this time. Eventually Norman was promoted to a position with hours on day shift only, allowing him to devote more time to music, performing with the Neighborhood Gang; sometimes with John Borroz; and by the mid eighties, mainly as sole bandleader of the current Norman Sylvester Band along with drummer/singer Ray Nelson, bass plunker Rob Shoemaker, and harp man/singer Carlie T. Helgerson. 40 years and well over 4,000 gigs later, now 79 year old Sylvester is firmly established as the leading exponent of the African American blues music tradition in the Portland region. Norman has been inducted to the Oregon Music Hall of Fame, has received multiple Cascade Blues Association Muddy Awards including Best R&B and Lifetime Achievement, and has been recognized for community service with the American Federation of Musicians Diversity Award. This show promises to be maximum fun for all ages.
