This 4-week series introduces two traditional practices designed to cultivate balance, mobility, and calm through slow, mindful movement.
We will explore Yang 24, a short and flowing Tai Chi sequence practiced with smooth weight shifts, relaxed joints, and an upright spine. This form incorporates foundational martial arts movements while maintaining a relaxed, meditative state of mind.
The series also includes Eight Brocades (Ba Duan Jin), a classical Qi Gong practice consisting of eight simple movements that combine gentle stretching with calm, coordinated breathing. These movements are designed to encourage the smooth circulation of energy (qi) through the body’s meridian pathways and support overall harmony and well-being.
Practiced together, Tai Chi and Qi Gong often feel like a blend of moving meditation and whole-body maintenance. Each class includes time to repeat and refine the movements so students can gradually improve alignment, release tension, and develop greater coordination and awareness.
The effort level is light to moderate, with an emphasis on ease rather than strain. Many students begin to notice a sense of calm and greater openness in the shoulders, hips, and back within the first few sessions.
With consistent practice, movement in daily life may begin to feel smoother and more steady, particularly when standing, walking, or changing direction.
