About this Event
Unleash your creativity with our 4-Week Degas Pastel Workshop, held Wednesday evenings, 5:30-7 pm in my studio! This in-depth, hands-on workshop is a unique opportunity to explore the techniques of one of the most celebrated masters of modern art – Edgar Degas.
Throughout the four weeks, we will not only study Degas' renowned pastel work but also dive deep into the abstract qualities of his compositions that often go unnoticed. You'll learn how Degas used pastels to depict movement, light, and emotion, capturing the human form with remarkable sensitivity. We’ll explore his innovative methods and his ability to create delicate yet dynamic figures, drawing on his fascination with ballet dancers, bathers, and everyday life.
Each week, we will build on foundational skills and techniques, looking closely at how Degas layered colours, blended textures, and manipulated light to achieve his signature ethereal quality. You'll work from life, honing your pastel technique as you explore ways to express the same movement, rhythm, and tension that Degas brought to his compositions.
This workshop is perfect for artists of all levels. Whether you're just beginning or looking to refine your pastel skills, you will be encouraged to explore your personal style while absorbing valuable insights from Degas' work. By the end of the course, you'll have produced your own stunning pieces and gained a deep understanding of the abstract nuances of Degas' artistic process.
