In this module, we will be exploring a very brief introduction to Abhidharma.

Abhidharma is often regarded as one of the most profound areas of Buddhist teaching — and also one of the least accessible. For many, it can feel distant or overly technical. This module offers a gentle and structured introduction, suitable for those who are new to Buddhist philosophy, with no prior background required.

Rather than presenting Abhidharma as abstract theory, we explore its purpose: why early Buddhists developed these teachings, and how they support learning, reflection, and practice.

Across four sessions, participants will be introduced to early Abhidharma traditions such as Vibhajyavāda and Sarvāstivāda, alongside key ideas from the Madhupiṇḍika Sutta, Dharma Theory, and the Theory of Moments. The course will also trace how these ideas influenced later Buddhist thought, including Mahāyāna developments.

Whether or not you have attended the previous modules, you are most welcome to join. Each session in this series is designed to stand on its own while also supporting your broader Dharma learning journey.

To maintain a meaningful and interactive learning environment, each intake is intentionally kept small. This allows for genuine sharing, thoughtful reflection, and more personalised guidance throughout the sessions.

By the end of the module, participants may gain a clearer and more grounded understanding of Abhidharma — not only as philosophy, but as a living framework for study and practice.
