PORTLAND, OR – October 2025 — Costumes, live music, and community dancing come together for a joyful night at the All Sets Céilí – Irish Squares on Friday, October 17, from 7:00 to 10:00 pm at Waverly, 3300 SE Woodward St, Portland.
Held every 3rd Friday from September through May, this monthly dance series brings the vibrant tradition of Irish set dancing to life. It’s a joyful, social form of dance where people come together in groups—often in square formations—and dance to spirited traditional music.
This month’s céilí celebrates Samhain, the Irish festival marking the turn of the seasons. Costumes are welcome but not required—come as you are, or join the fun in festive attire.
What is a Céilí?
A céilí (pronounced “kay-lee”) is a traditional Irish social gathering featuring music, dance, and good company. At its heart, it’s about coming together to share rhythm, laughter, and connection—whether you’re an experienced dancer or stepping onto the floor for the first time.

Featured Musicians
Bronnie Griffin brings a passionate, expressive style drawing on her years of immersion in Irish and related idioms. Influenced by mentors from both sides of the Atlantic.
Preston Howard Wilde is a longtime devotee of Irish piping, specializing in the traditions of pre-famine Irish pipe music (1780s–1840s). With over 20 years on the uilleann pipes, he has studied with masters in Ireland, collaborated with Liz Knowles, Mick O’Brien, and Kevin Burke, and is also a skilled reed-maker, bringing rare depth to his craft.
Caller
Maldon Meehan is a performer, teacher, and choreographer specializing in Irish dance traditions including sean-nós, set dancing, and old-style step. She holds a Master’s in Ethnochoreology from the University of Limerick, Ireland, and has over 30 years of experience teaching and performing.
Known for her clarity and warmth, Maldon makes Irish set dancing welcoming for all—blending tradition, community spirit, and plenty of fun.
