Who are we?
3EIB is a community-driven platform, an interdisciplinary creative agency connecting SWANA artists, and a powerhouse in event production.
Our mission is to encourage the authentic expression of cultural identity while pushing the boundaries of representation.
We take up space within the existing cultural landscape through a decolonial lense, and intend to catapult the creative SWANA industry towards global recognition.
Representation and recognition is everything in a world where the truth is shadow-banned, and the foundation of every injustice is the dehumanisation of a people and the ROI of their oppression. Palestinian owned. Creativity is resistance!
What does 3EIB mean?
The Arabic word 3EIB or ‘عيب’ translates as ‘shame’ in Arabic, a word used to police people within our community who deviate from socially prescribed norms.
Most Arabs will be able to tell you a time they have been silenced by this word.
We are reclaiming this word as a form of protest.
We refuse to be the victims of language which serves systems of oppression that profits off our pain. We are owning our deviance and centering our joy. We believe in the political potential of pleasure and liberation being the antidote to shame.
Why SWANA?
We reject the colonial and geographically inaccurate term 'The Middle East', and favour the more neutral abbreviation for South West Asia and North Africa.
