In 1655, concerned with the welfare of clergy and their families, merchants of the City of London held the first Festival to raise funds to support them. 369 years later, a great deal has changed, but our mission to serve those who serve remains the same.
Even after four centuries, hearing three world-class cathedral choirs perform together is still a very rare treat. This year, Durham, Rochester and St Paul's Cathedral Choirs sing in a majestic act of worship.
The Festival Service is a key staple in both the Trust’s history, and in the history of choral music. Great composers, including Edward Elgar, composed arrangements specifically for our Service.
We’ve been privileged to hear hundreds of engaging, influential speakers giving the sermon. In 2023, we welcomed the Bishop of Gloucester, The Rt Revd Rachel Treweek. In 2024, we welcome the Archbishop of Wales, The Most Revd Andrew John.
