About the Awards
Established in 1990, the Pauli Murray Award honors the legacy of the late Reverend Dr. Pauli Murray (1910 - 1985), a distinguished individual who confronted discrimination, racism, and sexism throughout her life. The award is presented annually by the Orange County Human Relations Commission to an Orange County youth, adult, and business that have served the community with distinction in pursuit of equality, justice, and human rights for all residents.
About Dr. Pauli Murray
Dr. Pauli Murray was a historian, attorney, poet, activist, teacher, and the first Black female Episcopal priest. Born in Baltimore and raised in Durham, North Carolina, she dedicated her life to addressing injustice, giving voice to the unheard, education, and promoting reconciliation between races and economic classes. Her relentless pursuit of equality and Human rights continues to inspire generations.
Award Categories
- Youth Award: Recognizes an Orange County student making a significant impact in their community.
- Adult Award: Honors an individual for a lifelong commitment to justice and equity.
- Business Award: Celebrates a business or organization working to improve human relations.
Nomination Process
Community members are encouraged to nominate individuals or businesses demonstrating leadership in human rights and social justice.
How to Nominate:
- Complete the nomination form available .
- Provide a detailed description of the nominee's contributions and impact.
- Submit the form by April 1, 2025 at 5:00 p.m.
