Our 6th Annual 35mm Film Festival returns on April 17th-19th! We are thrilled to welcome Turner Classic Movies host Alicia Malone as this yearโs honoree of the Lou DiCrescenzo Cinematic Arts Award. She will join us in person as we showcase nine classic films from the archival vaults of national institutions like the Library of Congress, the UCLA Film & Television Archive, the George Eastman Museum, and more. Each feature is accompanied with an introduction and an era-appropriate pre-show of vintage snipes, trailers, and shorts. ๐๐ฒ๐๐๐ถ๐๐ฎ๐น ๐ฃ๐ฎ๐๐๐ฒ๐ ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐ง๐ถ๐ฐ๐ธ๐ฒ๐๐ ๐๐ผ ๐ฎ๐น๐น ๐ป๐ถ๐ป๐ฒ ๐ฏ๐ฑ๐บ๐บ ๐๐ต๐ผ๐๐ ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ฒ ๐ฎ๐๐ฎ๐ถ๐น๐ฎ๐ฏ๐น๐ฒ ๐ป๐ผ๐ ๐ฎ๐ amblertheater.org/35mmThe second day of the festival kicks off with a little-seen classic from 1932 Directed by Dorothy Arzner-MERRILY WE GO TO HELL. TCM Host Alicia Malone will join us to introduce the movie in person.
๐๐ฏ๐ผ๐๐ ๐๐ต๐ฒ ๐บ๐ผ๐๐ถ๐ฒ: Fredric March is a typical โ30s era cad, with a penchant for alcohol and a wandering eye. He meets and marries a trusting heiress, smartly played by Sylvia Sidney. Disillusioned with their married life, the couple agree to explore an open marriage, with amusing results. Witty, melodramatic, and fiercely feminist, this racy pre-Code era picture was ahead of its time and could only come from the mind of Dorothy Arzner, the singular female director working in 1930โs Hollywood.
