THE 32nd ANNUAL LATINO COLLEGE EXPO & LEADERSHIP SUMMIT 2025

"Education is the Key to the Future"

***** About the LATINO COLLEGE EXPO *****

The Latino College Expo (LCE) is your gateway to meeting admissions representatives from over 50 public and private colleges, universities and community-based organizations. Founded in 1990, LCE's mission has been to "elevate the educational aspirations of the Latino community and all youth". What makes this event so unique and groundbreaking is the focus on building a stronger partnership between a student and their parents/guardians, and counselors. When those partnerships are strengthened and realized, the daunting process of finding and affording college will be minimized and success outcomes will be maximized.

The EXPO is comprised of many colleges and universities, New York City Community Based Organizations, and "Ask the Counselor" tables. Bring your school transcripts, test scores and list of extracurricular activities if you'd like to talk one-to-one with a college advisor. "Ask the Counselor" tables will be available in English and Spanish.

You are also welcome to the LEADERSHIP SUMMIT prior to the Expo in order to hear information and engage in discussions on various topics that will help prepare you for the college search process. (See below for more info)

***** About the LEADERSHIP SUMMIT *****

(Seating is limited and pre-registration is highly recommended for each INFO SESSION. Please read the following Seminar descriptions below.)

The goal of the LEADERSHIP SUMMIT is to encourage all high school students, parents/guardians, counselors, and community-based organizations to participate in various seminars for college preparation prior to attending, and during, the 32nd Annual Latino College Expo.

As you exchange thoughts and ideas to learn about effective academic and leadership strategies to implement at your high schools and carry on to college when you enroll, you can expect to be energized, challenged, and empowered. You will also have an opportunity to learn about topics that are significant to you. In addition, you will have the chance to meet with representatives from many universities. You will also have the opportunity to meet with community-based organizations that provide college preparation services and scholarship information.

Best of all, you will be able to broaden your network with students from other high schools and/or other programs. The information gathered during the LEADERSHIP SUMMIT will help with the college exploration process.

Doors open at 9:00am.

The LEADERSHIP SUMMIT will begin promptly at 9:30AM with an Opening & Welcome that will include a Guest Speaker, introductions of Presenters & Panelists, a Student Raffle, Backpack Giveaways and special announcements for the day before transitioning to the Seminar Session rooms.

*Only those in attendance at the morning Welcome are eligible for the Raffle and Backpack Giveaways.

SESSION 1 @ 10:00am / SESSION 2 @ 11:00am

Registration is on a first-come first-serve basis.

Be the most knowledgeable consumer possible as you navigate through your college decision making journey. Make the choices and matches that are right for you and your family.

***** LEADERSHIP SUMMIT INFORMATION SESSIONS FOR 2025 *****

MAKING IT HAPPEN - It's ALL About Access & Success

Wondering about navigating pathways after high school? Not sure what to major in or what career to pursue? Feeling overwhelmed? Attendees will learn about choosing a major & life after college or other educational options. This info session will give you an opportunity to find out what it's like to work in fields like Media, Communications, Law, Finance, Health, Technology, Arts, Entrepreneurship, and others.

Panelists will share their personal and professional journeys ... choosing a school, when they decided their majors, the career paths they chose, the financial aid they had, internships & apprenticeships, trade organizations, keys to networking, challenges they've experienced, how technology (ie: Artificial Intelligence) is impacting their industries and how they are adapting to the ever changing landscapes.

ADMISSIONS BASICS - Key Things To Know

Knowing when to start on the college process and taking specific steps will help to alleviate as much stress as possible. How should researching schools be done? What are schools really looking for?

These questions will be addressed as well as preparing a portfolio, interviewing, essay writing, letters of recommendation, managing deadlines, things that make you stand out, public vs. private institutions, opportunity programs (EOP, HEOP Seek/CD ...) , 2-Year options, the Transfer process, taking a Gap year successfully and more. Hear firsthand from college admissions representatives who are the experts on the inside info and key things to know about admissions.

FINANCIAL AID & MONEY TO STUDY - Accessing Grants & Scholarships

Applying to college can be intimidating, confusing and expensive. There are millions of dollars that go unclaimed by prospective students. This session will address the essentials of applying to college, from crafting competitive applications to completing basic necessary financial aid paperwork (ie: the new Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), the New York State Tuition Asistance Program (TAP) & the CSS Profile) in order to access the wealth of funding available.

Participants will also learn how to research and access various types of opportunity programs, grants, and scholarships at the city, state and national levels. Resources will be shared such as websites, organizations and strategies to apply and obtain as much money as possible.

THE STUDENT ATHLETE - Embracing the Mamba Mentality

The Mamba Mentality, as it applies to being a “Student Athlete” and in life! To sum up what Mamba Mentality is, it means “to be able to constantly try to be the best version of yourself”, Kobe said. The Hall of Famer then explained it further. “Mamba Mentality is all about focusing on the process and trusting in the hard work when it matters most.”

This session dissects the Mamba Mentality, starting with the five pillars that Bryant articulated himself (Fearlessness, Relentlessness, Passion, Obsessiveness, and Resilience). You will hear from various scholar athletes and coaches to understand the different levels of college sports (DI, DII, DIII, and JUCO). You will also hear from admissions professionals who will break down the application process as it applies to being a “student athlete”.
