About this Event
Join Marsha McAllister in 30 Paintings - develop a personal visual vocabulary of imagery, content and subject matter that you can later use for finished work.
We will be moving through a large quantity of paintings using a quick, fluid and intuitive process. We will be creating 30 paintings in three weeks ending with a sharing of the work. This process is designed to help you let go of the ‘masterpiece syndrome”, working through ideas and not necessarily technique (although some new techniques may surface in the process).
If you participated in 100 drawings, you can use your drawings as a launching point or imagery that is around you ~ objects in your home, natural settings, contrived still-life’s, of course, your imagination or if you are working on a series already, use this process to expand on the series.
The three week time period equals about 1-2 paintings a day, so think about them as sketches spending 20–30 minutes on the paintings. If you have the time you can develop the pieces more fully, but remember the important part of this exercise is to move through ideas not create finished work. If you are working on one piece and a new idea arises, move on to the new idea.
We will meet weekly as a group, where each artist will present their pieces from the previous week, followed with an open discussion with the group.
This is an online class and will be held over Zoom. Class takes place on four Tuesdays: 3/4, 3/11, 3/18, and 3/25 from 4:30-7:00 pm.
Registration: Please register early if you are able, as it helps us to assure that classes meet their minimums in order to run! If you register more than three weeks before this class begins, a 20% early bird discount will automatically be applied to your ticket at checkout.
A Note on Ticket Pricing: We are experimenting with offering sliding scale tickets in order to keep our classes accessible to as many community members as possible. There are three price tiers. Sustaining tickets help us continue to invest in programming. Full price tickets cover the costs associated with running classes. Accessibility tickets are priced below what it costs for us to run a class. If the cost of a full price ticket is a hardship, we encourage you to purchase a sliding scale ticket. If you can pay the full price or sustaining price, please choose that option so we can keep providing arts programming to the community.
Tuition Assistance: Tuition assistance is available for Alchemy classes and workshops if finances are a barrier. Apply for tuition assistance here.
