Learn the basics of throwing clay on a potter’s wheel in this three-part course for all skill levels! Join teaching artist Jynell Dimalanta inside SPAM’s Cole Creativity Center to learn how to center clay, pull cylinders, trim, and glaze. Each week’s class will focus on a new step of the process, including throwing, trimming, and glazing. Students will finish the course with an understanding of all the steps required to create a fully functional ceramic piece.Every student will have their artwork fired in our kiln by our kiln technician.
This is a three-part course that will be taught on three consecutive Wednesdays: May 13, May 20, May 27, 2026, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Please allow 4–5 weeks for your work to be completed. Our Kiln Tech, Jynell Dimalanta, will reach out via email to schedule your pickup.
This class is for ages 16 and over. The cost of class is $140 per person. All skill levels are welcome and all materials are provided. Preregistration is required and space is limited. The course will be held inside the Cole Creativity Center located at 123 N 10th St, Santa Paula, CA. Free parking is available directly behind the building and students may enter through the front or back door.
All 3-week courses include FREE Open Studio hours on Thursdays from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. A complimentary 5 pounds of clay will be provided per week to current students. This resource is available to current students only and open studio space is granted on a first come, first serve basis. Our Kiln Technician is onsite to answer any questions during Open Studio hours.
