The “Mindfulness Revolution” has taken the Western world by storm in the last 50 years. In a short period of time, meditation has come to be regarded as one of the pillars of well-being, earning its place in the pantheon among exercise, nutrition, sleep, and healthy relationships. The upshot is that many of us feel like we “should” meditate. But what does that mean in practice? What is meditation, actually? Is it just one universal practice, or a diverse ecosystem crawling with different organisms? And if each tradition has its own style and approach to meditation, which might be the most beneficial for me?In our upcoming 3-day meditation retreat in Salt Lake City, Utah, we will deeply explore the foundations of meditative practice, and examine the genuine differences in meditative styles, especially between Buddhism and Christianity. While these two traditions have significant overlap in their approaches to awakening, their differences are equally meaningful.
Whether you gravitate towards Jesus, the Buddha, or are a lover of the wisdom traditions at large, this retreat will offer nourishment and new insights, inviting you to hone the style of meditation that most speaks to you.
I think you will love this meditation retreat if:
- You sense that the Christian tradition is more expansive than what you were taught to believe.
- You love Buddhism, but have been waiting to dive into the deep end.
- You’re already in the deep end and love to commune with other intentional pilgrims.
- You prefer soul work to Netflix, but damn if it ain’t hard doing soul work alone.
- You want to bring wisdom teachings to life through shared reading and practice
- You trust silence, nature, and community to help you heal and grow.
- You want to make more room for solitude in your life, so your own innate Wisdom can more readily pour through you.
- You want to suck the marrow out of life. (Hat tip to Henry David Thoreau).
